The Hunted

A policeman investigating a jewel robbery finds that every trail leads to his girlfriend. She, for her part, says she has been framed. The film builds what follows as a question of trust; the man’s profession and his feelings are tested at the same time. The account works with the moulds of film noir: night, hard light and a world in which everyone is hiding something. It declares the woman neither innocent nor guilty and keeps the decision suspended to the end. Scenes on the ice give the film an unusual texture. It came to be counted among the better low budget crime films of American cinema in 1948. Preston Foster and Belita appear in Jack Bernhard’s eighty eight minute American film, completed in 1948.
