The Inheritors

In the eighties a neo-Nazi organisation is recruiting among the young. Two boys of high school age join it; they come from different classes but their reasons are alike. Thomas is the son of a self made industrialist, and his mother keeps demanding more of him. He attends a private school and his brother is a musician, but none of it satisfies her. Charly has dropped out; his father is a labourer with a drinking problem who is violent at home. In the youth group each of them finds order, respect, friendship and adults who seem to value them. The film asks where violence at home and political violence meet. The account does not make the organisation attractive, but it does not hide why it looked attractive either. Nikolas Vogel and Wolfgang Gasser appear in Walter Bannert’s eighty eight minute Austrian film, completed in 1983.
