What The Interrupted Journey Is About
In Daniel Birt’s 1949 British thriller, John North, an aspiring writer, is on a night train going away for the weekend with his publisher’s wife. He changes his mind, pulls the communication cord, and sets off a chain of events: a crash, a murder and a police hunt with him at the end of it. The film is built less around finding a culprit than around a man caught by the consequences of one decision, and it holds on to the feeling that none of it is quite what it appears until the last stretch. Richard Todd plays John and Valerie Hobson the publisher’s wife. It is generally grouped with the post-war British noirs.
