The Invisible Man

Universal had lined this character up in 2016 with Johnny Depp, inside a linked monster universe. When The Mummy underperformed in 2017 the studio dropped the shared world for standalone stories, and Leigh Whannell’s version came not from that plan but from a seven million dollar budget. It returned 144.5 million dollars worldwide. Whannell states the method plainly: he can aim the camera down an empty corridor and make it threatening, because the audience bought a ticket to a film called The Invisible Man. His cinematographer Stefan Duscio describes framing people so that someone else could be occupying the negative space, and shot on the ARRI Alexa LF with Signature Primes. The suspense is therefore outsourced to your own scanning of the frame, and it collapses on a small screen. Photography ran from 16 July to 17 September 2019 in Sydney, with Headland House at Gerringong standing in for the fortified home. Three weeks after the cinema opening, on 20 March 2020, closures pushed it into homes as a 19.99 dollar rental good for forty eight hours. A good fit if you will search the empty half of the frame yourself, on the largest picture available rather than a phone. Not for anyone impatient with a first half that runs on nobody believing her instead of on attacks.
