What The Island Is About
A group of colleagues on a company trip are stranded on a deserted island after a catastrophic event. One of them has just won a huge lottery prize, and the ticket in his pocket now means nothing. New orders form on the island in sequence: first the strongest man's word counts, then a barter economy appears, then someone who knows how to make people believe takes over. So it is not a survival story but an allegory about how money and power get invented. Huang Bo's first film as director was much discussed in China, and its Chinese title refers to putting on a show.
