What The Journey Is About
Two men who could not stand further apart in Northern Ireland: Ian Paisley, the fiery leader of the Democratic Unionist Party, and Martin McGuinness of Sinn Féin. The film invents a car journey and puts them in it together. Paisley has to get home for his wedding anniversary, McGuinness insists on not leaving his side, and on the road to the airport there is nothing to do but talk. Nick Hamm sets this against the St Andrews talks of 2006, and rather than reconstructing the history he stages how the two men looked at each other. Timothy Spall is Paisley, Colm Meaney is McGuinness, and John Hurt is in the cast.
