The Leg

Valera is a cheerful young man from Moscow. At nineteen he goes off to war. Where he goes is Afghanistan. There he learns at close hand what war is. In one of the actions he loses a leg. Then he returns to his own country. He thinks the return will bring some relief. But the hard part begins there. The life he left behind is not the same now. Nor is he the same. The account settles into that period after the return. The film runs war and drama together. Ivan Okhlobystin and Pyotr Mamonov take the leads, with Ivan Zakhava also in the cast, in Nikita Tyagunov’s Soviet film of 1991.
