The Margin

The film takes place in São Paulo. The events happen on the banks of the Tietê. A life of its own goes on by the water. The people there have been pushed outside the city. Among them are women who sell sex. The man who puts them to work is there too. A man with a mental disability walks along the bank. Nobody has steady work. The future is not something anyone talks about. The days pass beside the river. The ties they form with each other are fragile. The film shows this life without dressing it up. Death sits in all their minds as a way out. The telling moves through images more than words. Valeria Vidal and Bentinho appear in the ninety six minute film, a Brazilian production Ozualdo Ribeiro Candeias finished in 1967.
