What The Mill of Good Luck Is About
The film tells the inner change in a man who tries to fight his love of money and loses. At first he is sure of himself; he thinks the dealings he enters into to increase his takings will not change him. But at every step he gives a little more ground, and past a certain point he arrives where there is no going back. The account shows this not as a sudden fall but as the sum of small choices made day by day. The film comes from the vein of Romanian cinema of the fifties that drew on literary sources. Constantin Codrescu and Geo Barton appear in Victor Iliu’s hundred and ten minute Romanian film, completed in 1957.
