What The Mystery of the Rocks of Kador Is About
A count who is his niece’s guardian sets his sights on her fortune to clear his debts and plans to have her removed. The young woman survives the attempt but is left unable to speak or remember. A doctor proposes an unusual method: stage the event again, film it, and show the film to her. In 1912 Leonce Perret was already making cinema both his subject and his instrument of treatment. Very few films this early arrive at the idea that an image on a screen might open a memory, and the shooting on the Breton coast is beautiful besides.
