The Nut

Charlie Jackson is an inventor whose head is always full of new contraptions. His girlfriend has a plan: to help children from poor neighbourhoods. Money is needed for it. Charlie tries to interest wealthy investors in the scheme. But every road he takes tangles in ways he did not expect. His own inventions do not make things easier. The film builds it as a comedy. It uses the busy, physical comedy of the silent period. William Lowery and Barbara La Marr are also in the cast. The account puts invention and charity into the same story. Douglas Fairbanks and Marguerite De La Motte take the leads in Theodore Reed’s American film of 1921.
