The Other Irene

Aurel works as a security guard. He lives with his wife Irene in a Romanian city. Their marriage is neither very happy nor unhappy. Their life runs along in moderate comfort. Irene goes to Cairo for work. She comes back invigorated, her trip having gone well. Before long she sets off again. This time she does not come back. Aurel is told that she has died. The official explanation is there, but it does not convince him. The audience shares his suspicion. He starts looking into it himself. He has neither authority nor means. Doors close and answers stay half finished. Part of what follows is predictable and part of it is not at all. The search turns into a form of mourning rather than an investigation. Andi Vasluianu and Simona Popescu appear in the ninety minute film, a Romanian production Andrei Gruzsniczki finished in 2009.
