What The Patriots Is About
Ariel, a young French Jew, leaves his family for Israel and joins the Mossad. After years of training his first assignment sends him back to the city he came from, Paris, to extract information from a French nuclear scientist. Éric Rochant frames this not as heroism but as a question about who loyalty is owed to, and the tradecraft here is mostly the business of turning human relationships into instruments. The script draws on real espionage cases from the 1980s. It competed at Cannes in 1994, the year Pulp Fiction took the Palme d'Or.
