What The Plague Is About
Twelve year old Ben arrives at a water polo camp and runs straight into its hierarchy. To fit in he attaches himself to the popular boys, while also befriending Eli, the outcast, whose skin condition the camp treats as a contagious disease so that anyone who touches him is marked too. In his first feature Charlie Polinger builds boyhood cruelty as a system of superstition: no rules, only ritual. Joel Edgerton acts in it and produced it. Water, chlorine and the sound of an indoor pool carry the entire atmosphere. It premiered in Un Certain Regard at Cannes in 2025. Who it is for: viewers who like adolescent fear told as psychological thriller. Who it is not for: anyone who struggles to watch cruelty between children.
