The Plan Man

Jung-seok plans everything to the minute. He writes down in advance what time he will get up, how many steps he will take, which book he will read in which order. He has obsessive-compulsive disorder and stepping outside the order finishes him. He works at a library and speaks to nobody. Then he meets So-jung: she plans nothing, turns up late, makes a mess, and wrecks every one of his lists. The film, directed by Sung Si-hup, is in the romantic comedy mould and does not strain against it at all: two opposite characters, comic misunderstandings, a softening at the end. Jung Jae-young plays the man and does not turn the part into a caricature; he shows the compulsion as something exhausting rather than funny. Han Ji-min plays the woman. A hundred and twenty-one minutes. The film's weakness is that in the end it presents the condition as a problem love can solve.
