The Punisher: One Last Kill

A special presentation running forty-eight minutes. Frank Castle is trying to live without revenge. After losing his family he gave years to finishing a list, and now he is trying to stop. It does not hold. Something he did not expect pulls him back in and the attempt to stop ends there. From there the production runs short and in one direction. Because it is under an hour the narrative carries no preparation, no background and no subplot; it goes straight to the result. What the narrative is interested in is not action but the inability to let go: the character carries violence as a habit rather than a duty, and the production does not resolve it. The violence is open. The certificate is high and the scenes are not shortened; in one section the character is set on fire. Jon Bernthal had played the same part in a series before and comes here from that; he wrote the script with the director. Reinaldo Marcus Green directed; he had previously made King Richard and Bob Marley: One Love. This is not a genre you would expect from him. It was released on Disney+ on the twelfth of May 2026 and also shown in cinemas. The reviews were mildly positive: eighty-six per cent on Rotten Tomatoes and sixty-six on Metacritic. Some critics found a strong character study, others wrote that there was nothing solid in it. The viewership was high. In the first half of 2026 it recorded 12.2 million views and 586.2 million minutes watched. Jon Bernthal, Deborah Ann Woll and Jason R. Moore are in the cast. Who it is for: anyone who knows the character from the series and wants something short and hard. Who it is not for: anyone expecting a film; it runs forty-eight minutes and works like an episode.
