The Road

The film is set in China in the nineteen sixties. A young woman works as a conductor on a bus. The driver on that route is an older man named Lao Cui. On one journey she is drawn to a young doctor she meets. But in that period there are things standing in the way of such a closeness. How her life is to be arranged is largely decided outside her. Over the years the account gathers around the bus. The film tells a woman’s life along a single route. The hundred and fourteen minutes are spread over many years. Zhang Jingchu and Fan Wei appear in Zhang Jiarui’s Chinese film of 2006.
