What The Sea Is About
A well known actor who comes to rest on Capri out of season, when the island has emptied, meets a young man who lives there, and an attraction forms between them at once and on both sides. Then a woman arrives on the island as a third corner, and the young man is slowly left outside. The account is built less from events than from waiting: empty hotels, wind, rocks and things that are not said. The island is used as a closed space none of the three can leave. Giuseppe Patroni Griffi’s hundred and five minute Italian film drew attention in its day for showing desire without naming it; Umberto Orsini and Françoise Prévost appear.
