What The Ship Is About
Miguel presents a radio programme for children called La Nave; at the microphone he is a reassuring voice that gives advice, but his own life has come apart and he looks at everything with sarcasm and pessimism. One day a boy named Gerardo, who listens to the programme, gets in touch with him; his cancer treatment is not working and his only wish is to see that ship and go to the sea in it. Miguel decides to do what he can to make it happen, and the journey changes both of them. Batan Silva’s ninety four minute Mexican film was written by Pablo Cruz, who also takes the lead, and drew on what he had lived through himself. It opened on 12 May 2022.
