What The Sky Slow-Mover Is About
Three pilots are close friends and good fighters, and they swear an oath not to fall in love until the war is over. Then three women pilots turn up and the oath goes one by one. The title comes from the frontline nickname for the U-2 aircraft: after a bad wound, one of the men has to fly that slow machine instead of a fighter and has to wrestle with his own pride about it. Semyon Timoshenko made this musical comedy immediately after the war and it became one of the most watched Soviet films of 1946; its songs outlived it by decades.
