What The Swell Season Is About
The documentary follows two musicians whose lives changed after the film Once. Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová had played two people in love in that film; its song Falling Slowly won the Academy Award for best original song, and the fiction and the reality became mixed together. The pair then made an album and set out on a world tour, but the relationship they kept up on stage began to fail off it, and the difference in their ages, the fame and the order of touring came between them. The camera describes this not through scenes of argument but through silences on a bus seat and at a backstage door. The eighty nine minute American documentary by Nick August-Perna, Chris Dapkins and Carlo Mirabella-Davis was shot between 2007 and 2010, in black and white.
