What The Taste of Tea Is About
A few months in the life of one family in rural Tochigi. The mother is animating a film at the kitchen table, the grandfather keeps striking peculiar poses, the father practises hypnosis, the teenage son falls in love. Meanwhile the small daughter is being followed around by an enormous version of herself, and nobody in the house finds this strange. Katsuhito Ishii builds seasons rather than a plot and fills them with short episodes, some very funny and some abruptly sad. Two and a half hours that deliberately arrive nowhere.
