What The Trip Is About
Los Angeles, 1973. Alan is twenty-four, a conservative journalist writing a book against homosexuality. Tommy is nineteen and an activist for gay rights. They meet at a gathering and stand at exactly opposite ends of it. Something starts between them anyway. Alan gives up on publishing the book, but years later it is printed without his knowledge and ends the relationship. They meet again in the eighties, and this time Tommy is ill. Miles Swain directs; ninety-five minutes. Steve Braun plays Tommy and Larry Sullivan plays Alan. It tells the change the American gay movement went through from the seventies into the eighties through two lives: liberation, and then the epidemic.
