What The Turkish Gambit Is About
During the Russo-Turkish war of 1877 to 1878, the Russian detective Erast Fandorin escapes captivity and tries to reach the front, meeting Varvara, who has set out to find her fiance, on the way. His real task is to identify the spy inside the Russian army. Adapted from the second novel of Boris Akunin's Fandorin series, it was among the biggest hits in Russia of its time. One note matters from Turkey: this is the war Turkish history calls the war of 93, told entirely from the Russian side. The Ottoman side is background and enemy, with no story of its own.
