What The Unintentional Kidnapping of Mrs. Elfriede Ott Is About
Horst has been drawing his grandmother's pension for years. The one problem is that she died some time ago and nobody knows. Then a local politician announces that he will call at the house to wish the grandmother a happy birthday. In a panic Horst takes an old lady from the hospital nearby, and things get out of hand from there. The strangest thing about Andreas Prochaska's Austrian comedy is this: the woman who is taken is played by Elfriede Ott, a well-known stage actress in the country, and the film calls her by her own name. Michael Ostrowski plays Horst. The humour is dark and local; the telling aims at the petty fraud and at the politician's display at the same time.
