What The War Within Is About
A Pakistani man caught up in a planned attack in New York finds, as the day approaches, that he can no longer manage his conscience. The house where he is staying, the people he comes to know there and the ordinariness of daily life keep putting his decision in question. The film neither excuses the man nor turns him into a type; it is about what kind of process radicalisation is and what a person loses inside it. The account draws its tension from the wavering rather than from the act. Ayad Akhtar plays the lead in Joseph Castelo’s ninety three minute American film, completed in 2005.
