The Wild Dog Dingo

The life of Tanya and her mother changes when her father arrives with his foster son Kolya and his new wife. The film is about the first love of Kolya and Tanya, of the bright, pure and painful kind. The account does not belittle what children feel, nor present the separation of the adults as something that merely passes over them; it keeps the girl’s own view at the centre. Snow, school and long walks set the film’s rhythm, and what goes unspoken takes up more room than what is said. It comes from the vein of Soviet cinema of the sixties that took adolescence seriously. Galina Polskikh plays the lead in Yuli Karasik’s ninety seven minute Soviet film, completed in 1962.
