What The Woman from Nowhere Is About
A woman of fifty, marked by a life of disillusionment and regret, returns to the house where she lived twenty years before, hoping to find the happier memories again. There she meets the daughter of the current owners: a young woman on the point of leaving the house exactly as she once did. Louis Delluc was one of the founding figures of French impressionist cinema, and he considered this his most accomplished work. Setting the present against the past, and reality against memory, inside the same image is the whole of his idea of what film could do.
