What The Wrecking Crew Is About
The Wrecking Crew is a documentary director Denny Tedesco decided to make after his father, the group's guitarist Tommy Tedesco, was diagnosed with lung cancer; filming began in June 1996 and editing finished in February 2008, a twelve year process. The film premiered at SXSW in 2008, but distributors avoided it for years, wary of the cost of clearing rights to over 130 songs. Tedesco launched a Kickstarter campaign in 2013, raising roughly 313,000 dollars from 4,245 backers; the film finally opened in the US on March 13, 2015, a full seven years after its premiere. Who it's for: anyone curious about a music documentary begun after a director's father's illness, delayed twelve years by rights clearance, and finally rescued by crowdfunding. Who it's not for: viewers wanting a fast, trouble free production story.
