What The Young Poisoner's Handbook Is About
Graham Young is a misfit teenager in suburban London in the sixties, and his love of chemistry and his hatred of his stepmother arrive at the same idea. He begins poisoning her slowly. When she dies he is caught and sent to a psychiatric hospital, where an optimistic doctor believes he can be cured. Benjamin Ross adapted a real case. Young became known in Britain as the teacup poisoner; after being released from hospital he poisoned colleagues at his workplace, and deaths followed. The film tells it as black comedy without making the poisoner charming, and without looking away from the decision the institutions made about him.
