Together

In the East End of London, among streets the war had bombed, two deaf dockers live. The friendship between them is wordless; they work together, eat together and walk together, and stay outside the noisy life around them. The children of the neighbourhood at first pretend to play with them, then begin to mock them, and the game grows steadily harder; in the end something happens that nobody wanted. The fifty two minute British film by Lorenza Mazzetti and Denis Horne was made from a story by Horne and shot in 1954 in districts still in ruins. The painter Michael Andrews and the sculptor Eduardo Paolozzi take the leads. It was completed in 1956 and was part of the first Free Cinema programme.
