Tomorrow at Dawn

Mathieu, a pianist, goes back to his brother Paul to help care for their sick mother. Paul belongs to a group that reenacts old battles. He puts on the costume, gets into character, and will even fight a duel if it comes to that. Mathieu enters that world at first out of curiosity. But the line between the game and the real thing keeps getting fainter. The film tells this not as a story about a hobby but as a form of escape. How far apart the two brothers are is the real subject. Helplessness in a real life being carried into another century holds the story together. Vincent Perez and Jérémie Renier appear in Denis Dercourt’s ninety four minute French film, completed in 2009.
