Toto and the Women

Antonio Scaparro works behind the counter of a fabric shop. There is no peace for him at home: his wife is permanently at war with him, and every woman around him wants something. In time he works up a theory about women and sets out to prove it, and the film lays that theory out in one sketch after another. The only escape he finds in the end is the attic of his own house. The credits carry both Mario Monicelli and Steno, but Steno actually did the work: the pair had been given two films to make together and split them between themselves without telling the producers. It is the first film in which Totò and Peppino De Filippo appear together, written by Age and Scarpelli.
