What Tous les soleils Is About

Alessandro teaches musicology at the university in Strasbourg and reads to patients in hospitals in his spare time. Two people share his flat: his fifteen-year-old daughter Irina, and his anarchist brother Luigi, who earns nothing because he will not sell his paintings to capitalist speculators. He lost his wife years ago and has never got past it. As Irina grows up, his protectiveness becomes something she cannot breathe under. Then Florence appears. Philippe Claudel mixes Italian family comedy with French melancholy; he is also a novelist, and it shows in the dialogue. Stefano Accorsi leads, with Anouk Aimée in the cast.
