Truly Naked

Muriel d'Ansembourg's film follows Alec, an introverted teenager working in his father's pornography business. He knows sex only from behind the camera, and a girl from school pushes him out of that position. The subject is the breaking of that distance. Alec had kept a separation between what he recorded and his own life; when it collapses, his relation to both the work and his father changes. The narrative neither glorifies the industry nor simply condemns it; it shows the conditions and centres what the young character learns. The tone is measured and the scenes short. Who it's for: those who follow European youth drama. Who it's not for: viewers for whom the pornography industry and a young character's sexuality would sit heavily.
