Trust Me

Mari is a gifted cook who does not trust herself. She works under an authoritarian chef, and the dream of a kitchen of her own keeps getting put off. One day she meets Caio. He encourages her, provides what is needed, and Mari finally opens her own restaurant. But nothing is quite what it looks like. Michel Tikhomiroff's Brazilian thriller turns a romantic opening slowly into something else. Mateus Solano and Fernanda Machado take the leads. The telling does not make Mari naive; it makes clear what it was that convinced her. The kitchen scenes are realistic. The tension comes not from large events but from the way trust is built.
