Unruly

The year is 1933. Society has firm expectations about how young women should behave. Seventeen year old Maren, who does not meet them, is sent to the women’s institution on Sprogo; the aim is to make her compliant. But the stay has the opposite effect. Maren also affects Sorine, who has been there six years and has taken on the rules of the place; over time a bond forms between the two women that will not break, and it decides the rest of both their lives. The film tells the order of the institution and what was demanded of women in that period with a quiet anger. Jessica Dinnage plays the lead in Malou Reymann’s hundred and thirty five minute Danish film, completed in 2023.
