Wrong Rosary

Musa is posted to Istanbul and arrives as the muezzin of a small mosque in Galata. He moves into the flat the mosque keeps for him. Clara, a novice nun, lives in the flat opposite. The two of them meet as neighbours in the same building, and Musa slowly becomes attached to her, without being able to say so either to her or to himself. This is Mahmut Fazıl Coşkun's first feature. A friendship with a second-hand bookseller widens Musa's world. The film never raises its voice about religion, love or loneliness; almost nothing is said out loud and everything sits in looks and silences. Galata is filmed as it ordinarily is. The film shared the Golden Tiger at the 2009 Rotterdam Film Festival and took the best director award in Istanbul.
