What Veerana Is About
A young woman possessed since childhood by a vengeful spirit wanders through lonely places, kills those who cross her path, and is carried further and further outside her own will. Directed together by the brothers Shyam and Tulsi Ramsay, the film is one of the productions that turned the Ramsay name into a legend in Indian horror: a witch trapped in a bottle, wildly excessive effects and long song sequences interrupting the scares make it a full blown cult item. Bappi Lahiri and Anil Arun wrote the music. The film ran into trouble with the censor board and waited roughly three years before being revised and released with an adult certificate in 1988. Jasmin and Hemant Birje star, and a picture made for sixty lakh took two and a half crore at the box office.
