What Vicki Is About
Vicki Lynn, a supermodel whose face is everywhere, is murdered. Ed Cornell of homicide takes the case personally, and as the investigation goes on the story of how a waitress was turned into a star comes out. Harry Horner's 1953 film is a nearly scene for scene remake of I Wake Up Screaming from 1941, itself adapted from Steve Fisher's novel. Jeanne Crain, Jean Peters and Richard Boone play it. Boone's obsessive policeman is the best thing here, one of the more disturbing figures in noir built out of an entirely calm delivery.
