Viraata Parvam

Venu Udugula's 2022 Telugu film is set in Telangana at the end of the nineties. Vennela falls for a poet's lines, and the poet is also inside the armed movement. She leaves home to find him. The film places a love story inside the movement; the narrative idealises neither the armed organisation nor the state, and takes as its subject that Vennela's decision cannot be explained to anyone. Sai Pallavi and Rana Daggubati lead. The images were taken in forest country and in real locations. The close is hard. Who it's for: viewers of Indian political drama and period narratives. Who it's not for: viewers for whom violence and scenes of execution would be difficult.
