Viswasam

Thooku Durai is the man who settles disputes in his village and whom everyone respects. Years ago his wife Niranjana left him for Chennai, taking their daughter with her, and they have not seen each other since. Learning that his daughter is ill, he goes to the city. His wife does not want him there and his daughter does not know him. At the same time there is a threat around his wife's business, and he finds himself inside it. Siva's film carries the familiar structure of Tamil mass cinema: village against city, a family matter, and hero entrance sequences. What is interesting in the narrative is that it puts the father-daughter relationship ahead of the action. Ajith Kumar plays Thooku Durai and Nayanthara plays his wife. The film was among the highest-grossing Tamil productions of its year. Who it's for: Viewers who like Tamil mass films, family drama, and Ajith Kumar. Who it's not for: It runs long and the action is not physically credible. The writing of the woman also shifts to suit the narrative's needs.
