David Blair's 1991 American film follows a computer programmer who keeps bees. Bees implant a television in Jacob's brain; after that the difference between what he sees and what he remembers disappears, and the narrative scatters into a family history, weapons technology and a land of the dead. The film runs its narrative entirely through voiceover. The images are archive, animation, early digital effects and direct footage; none of them build a scene and the connection exists only in the narrator's sentences. It is among the first independent features edited on a digital non-linear system. It also became the first film livestreamed over the internet; that 1993 transmission was reported as an event in the press of the time. William Burroughs takes a brief role. Who it's for: those curious about experimental cinema and early digital art. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a followable narrative; the film never intends one.
