What We Called Him Robert Is About

Sergey is a scientist. He builds a robot to be sent into space. He makes it look exactly like himself. He calls it Robert. The robot has to be tested before it goes out among people. Sergey sends it to meet the fiancée of a colleague. The woman is called Tanya. Robert comes before her wearing his maker’s face. The likeness leads to a great deal of confusion. In time Tanya teaches Robert to feel. From a certain point the robot behaves more humanly than the man who made it. The scientist meanwhile goes on explaining everything by reason. One actor plays both Sergey and Robert. The story puts science fiction and comedy together. It took a prize at the fantasy film festival in Milan in 1969. Oleg Strizhenov and Marianna Vertinskaya appear in the ninety three minute film, a Soviet production Ilya Olshvanger finished in 1967.
