Wedding

The Zhigalov family have a daughter of marrying age, Dasha. The official Aplombov has come to the house all summer, eaten there and made himself accepted as the groom. But it now turns out the man has no intention of marrying. With difficulty Dasha’s father talks him into proposing. Aplombov agrees, but sets a condition: a general must come to the wedding. The story is adapted from the one act play of the same name by Anton Chekhov. The film is a sharp satire on the manners of the petty bourgeoisie before the revolution. Faina Ranevskaya, Aleksei Gribov and Erast Garin appear in Isidor Annensky’s Soviet film of 1944, sixty four minutes long.
