Weird: The Al Yankovic Story

The film pretends to tell the life of Al Yankovic and gets almost nothing right. A boy forbidden to play the accordion is discovered at secret parties and becomes a global rock star; his relationship with Madonna wrecks his career, he takes on Colombian drug lords and is shot on the Grammy stage. What the real Yankovic does, parody other people's songs, is reversed here: his songs come first and everyone else parodies him. Eric Appel directed. Daniel Radcliffe stars. Its origin is a fake trailer made for Funny or Die in 2010. Twelve years later the same joke was turned into a feature. Every major studio passed. The Roku Channel picked it up and it was made for 8 million dollars in eighteen shooting days.
