Kamel grew up on a housing estate on the edge of Paris. He served five years in prison for dealing drugs, and after his release he was barred from France for two more. When the ban ends and he comes back he tries, with his family behind him, to find work and put together an ordinary life. But there is no such thing as ordinary on the estate; the police, the lack of work and his old circle are all waiting where he left them. The film does not describe the estate the way an outsider looking in would; it speaks from inside it, and quietly. Rabah Ameur-Zaimeche’s eighty three minute French film was completed in 2001.
