What What You Gonna Do When the World's on Fire? Is About
The summer of 2017. A run of police killings of young Black men has sent shockwaves across the country. Roberto Minervini's documentary follows a Black community in the American South: people trying to live with the lasting effects of the past and to find a place in a country that is not on their side. Meanwhile the Black Panthers are preparing a large demonstration against police violence. Shot in black and white, the film observes without commentary; a woman running a bar, two brothers and the people organising the march all sit inside one account. It does not represent the pain, it leaves it standing.
