When the Raven Flies

Vikings raid a village in Ireland, after silver and slaves. The parents are killed; the boy is left with his sister. One of the Vikings does not kill him. Twenty years later the man arrives in Iceland. The two chieftains who led that raid are there and they are enemies. He puts himself between them: sells information to one, sets a trap for the other, and gets them killing each other. He tells nobody who he is. Hrafn Gunnlaugsson directs the Icelandic film; a hundred and nine minutes. It looks like a Viking story and is built like a western, carrying the scheme of Kurosawa's Yojimbo and Leone's A Fistful of Dollars onto Icelandic rock. It is among the best known films from the country abroad.
