What Godspeed Is About
Captain Salih sets off for Dalyan with Kerim, a young officer. His purpose is simple: to get Kerim to Elif, the woman he has loved for years. The longer the road goes on, the more of what both men left behind comes up, and what matters stops being the destination and becomes what gets said on the way. Mehmet Ada Öztekin's 2022 film puts military service, loss and guilt inside a road story. The landscape is beautiful and the tone is light, and the weight underneath it is not. Engin Akyürek and Tolga Sarıtaş play off each other. It approaches a subject recent Turkish cinema keeps returning to, living with trauma, from a quiet position.
